The Wii has been no stranger to first-person shooters.
Metroid Prime: Corruption and
Medal of Honor: Heroes are great examples on how to use the hardware. But, there is one thing that the Wii doesn't have: stellar graphics(cue fanboy). It doesn't need to either, as Nintendo has clearly stated it's not competing in the HD era.
Apparently,
The Conduit( video above) didn't get that memo. The orphan game is without a publisher, but that isn't stopping Rob Nichols from talking about it. Lead game designer, Nichols, and others from High Voltage spoke with thatvideogameblog.com about their plans to push the Wii to its limit.
"From the artistic perspective it was difficult because we needed to develop our engine so that it is as competitive with the 360 and the PS3 and that required a lot of trial and error," said Nichols
Competitive? Well that sounds extremely..far-fetched. But as far-fetched as it might sound, the boys at High Voltage have done some pretty amazing things with their engine. They also seem to have the knack to spot the obvious, going on to say that the Wii is suffering from ports and casual games.
"We chose The Conduit because we saw there was a need. We’re all Wii owners and love the system and think it’s wonderful that all these new gamers are being pulled in but we also want games for us and we weren’t seeing a lot of games like that being made outside of first party ones," said Studio Creative Director, Matt Corso.
Well at-least someone has come out and said it. I wish the guys the best of luck, and hope that this ambitious game sees the light.
